A stiff but flexible length of material, often made of polypropylene or steel, used to mechanically push through or break up clogs in drainage pipes. Multiple rods can be threaded together to reach deep into a sewer line. The connectors are designed so they will not unscrew when the assembly is rotated clockwise inside the pipe.
Heard on the job

Insider tip
Always rotate rods clockwise when pushing them down a drain to prevent the threaded joints from uncoupling underground.
