Dook

nounStandard termMining

An underground roadway or heading driven downward along the natural dip of the rock strata.

An inclined tunnel in a mine that descends by following the downward slope of the coal seam or ore body. Because it goes downhill, water naturally accumulates at the working face, requiring constant pumping to keep the heading dry during extraction.

Heard on the job

We need to extend the pipes down the main dook because the face is flooding again.
