Absolute scale

nounStandard termMetrology

A measurement scale where the zero point represents the complete absence of the measured quantity.

A temperature or measurement scale anchored at absolute zero, meaning negative values are impossible. The Kelvin and Rankine scales are absolute scales for temperature. Metrologists prefer absolute scales because ratios between values are physically meaningful, unlike relative scales such as Celsius or Fahrenheit.

Convert the temperatures to an absolute scale before you calculate the ratio.
