Hub-and-spoke

adjectiveStandard termLogistics

A distribution network where all freight moves through a central facility before reaching its final destination.

The hub-and-spoke model is a logistics and transit topology that routes all traffic through a central node. Instead of sending goods or passengers directly between every possible pair of locations, operators send everything to the hub for sorting and consolidation. The consolidated loads are then dispatched outward along the spokes, maximizing vehicle fill rates and simplifying the network.

We switched to a hub-and-spoke model last year, so all the regional freight goes through Memphis first.
