Prism train

nounStandard termLighting

An assembly of multiple prisms aligned to progressively increase light dispersion.

An optical sequence consisting of multiple prisms aligned in series to progressively increase the dispersion of light. By passing a beam through successive refractive elements, instruments can spread the spectrum much wider than a single prism allows, enabling high-resolution spectral analysis of light sources.

Heard on the job

We need to realign the prism train in the spectroradiometer to get a cleaner separation of the emission lines.
