Dichromatic

adjectiveStandard termLighting

Having two hues that shift depending on the thickness or concentration of the material.

Describes a material or substance that exhibits two distinctly different colors depending on the depth of the medium the light travels through or the concentration of the absorbing substance. This happens because the material's absorption spectrum has multiple valleys, causing different wavelengths to dominate at different optical path lengths.
