A linear planting of trees, shrubs, or a physical barrier positioned perpendicular to the prevailing winds. Windbreaks slow down wind speed across open fields, which prevents soil erosion, reduces physical damage to fragile crops, and helps retain soil moisture by lowering evaporation rates. They also provide vital shelter for livestock during harsh weather.
