Compressed natural gas is methane stored at high pressure for use as a vehicle fuel.

Compressed natural gas consists mostly of methane drawn from gas wells or derived from crude oil production. It is compressed to pressures between 2,900 and 3,600 psi and stored in hard cylinders. Fleet operators and transit systems use it as a lower-emission alternative to diesel fuel.

Check the pressure regulator on the CNG tank before we sign off on the bus inspection.

  • LNG: CNG is stored as a high-pressure gas at ambient temperature, while LNG is super-cooled into a liquid at near-ambient pressure.
