Conducted interference

nounStandard termElectrotechnology

Electrical noise or unwanted signals that travel along physical wires and cables.

Electromagnetic disturbance that propagates through power lines, grounding systems, or signal cables rather than radiating through the air. This noise typically originates from switching power supplies, motors, or lightning strikes and physically enters a sensitive device through its connected wiring. Engineers mitigate it using line filters, isolation transformers, and proper cable routing.

Heard on the job

We installed a ferrite choke on the power cord to suppress the conducted interference from the main drive.
